The Laser Vision Breakthrough: Everything You Need to Consider Before Making the Decision, Including: How Safe Is the Procedure? What Will It Cost? How Effective Is It?
Laser vision correction has helped hundreds of thousands of people throw away their eyeglasses or contact lenses. You've heard about it on the news or read about it in a magazine. You may even know someone who's had this surgery. But just what is this revolutionary operation? Laser vision correction is a surgical procedure in which a surgeon reshapes your cornea with a computer-controlled laser. The laser actually transfers your current eyeglass or contact lens prescription onto the surface of your eye. In The Laser Vision Breakthrough, you'll discover a detailed account of the pros and cons of this exciting medical procedure. Scientifically edited for accuracy by a medical advisory board, this book provides you with reliable, up-to-date information on all aspects of this life-changing surgery, including:
How to determine if laser vision correction is right for you Possible risks and complications How to find the best doctor The difference between the PRK and LASIK procedures What to expect during a consultation and pre-operative examination And much more!
This book was written in association with TLC Laser Eye Centers, the largest laser vision correction provider in North America.

Good basic information but not really up to date for 2002

I bought this book because I am going to have LASIK surgery the end of the month at the same place that sponsors the book (TLC). With the technology changing all the time, some of the stuff in this book is a bit out of date, but pretty accurate with what is going to be done. I would recommend a revision come out within the next couple months because of the leaps and bounds the procedure has had since the book was published. Don't get me wrong...this is an excellent start to find out more about LASIK and just don't depend on the Internet for the rest of your research.
Describes the Procedure Well, Downplays the Risks

The book gives a very detailed description of the procedureitself and many details surrounding it which is useful for anyoneconsidering the surgery. Unfortunately this can't make up for the factthat it downplays the risks, dismissing stories of bad outcomes asmostly some type of "urban legend". Also the author hasworked for one of the higher priced Laser Eye chains and many of theirstaff are quoted in the book. I felt this displayed a subtle biastowards them...

After reading the book, I had the procedure myself. It was the best thing I have even done. I highly recommend this book to anyone that is considering laser vision correction.
